Yokohama Rubber recently said that it would expand the production capacity of passenger car tires in its production base in India to meet the growing demand of the Indian market. The company will invest $82 million to build a new passenger car tire production line at Visakhapatnam plant in eastern India. After completion, the annual capacity of passenger car tires of the factory and Yokohama India (YIN) will increase from 2.8 million to 4.5 million. The new production line is planned to be put into production in the fourth quarter of 2024. The company hopes to produce passenger car tires with a maximum size of 22 inches in the future.

Yokohama Rubber said that India's auto industry is expanding rapidly. In 2022, India's auto sales have surpassed Japan and ranked third in the world. Yokohama Rubber predicted that it will continue to grow in the future. In order to meet the needs of the Indian market, YIN, which was put into operation in 2007, has been expanding its production capacity. Its annual production capacity of tires has increased from 700000 in the early stage of production in 2014 to 1.53 million in 2019, and then to 1.96 million in 2021. From January 2023, the annual output of YIN will reach 2.8 million.
